Some recognise and learn

Others are as harried as a hamster in a flywheel

The View

I suppose all of us are, to some extent, students and hamsters.

But, how much of a student?

How much of a hamster?

    1. When we witness mankind repeating the same mistakes – one can’t help but visualize hamsters in a large flywheel that would finally lose balance and tip into the cauldron.

  1. Someone once told me that the definition of an insane person was someone who does the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Is that equivalent to making mistakes and looking in the mirror and not seeing more coming?
One of your commentators mentioned that the more we know and understand the more we realize that we don’t know. Those in ignorance are those in the questionably blissful state of thinking that they know a lot. I know that you don’t like quotes but it does bring to mind the much quoted quip; when I was eighteen I thought that my father knew nothing, when I was twenty –one I was amazed how much he had learned in three years!
Thank you for this teaser for the week.

    1. Hello Jane dear,

I’ve actually witnessed office staff who, experiencing problems with their computers, hit the same button repeatedly – hoping to get a different result. This mindless approach is embraced by many in many other situations.

Yes, there are many subscribers to instituitional beliefs/disciplines/sciences/etc who reckon they know it all, have all the answers. What a blissful state to be in, I suppose.

LOL – yes, we’ve all had such adults in our lives — how amazingly they grow up 🙂

      Peace,
      Eric

  2. OK Eric … now I have forgotten whet you said. Te reason for that is that I read, no watched my first ad on a blog (and enjoyed it). Oh yeah, I must be a hamster. 😉

  3. There are some who don’t even see it coming,so they don’t take heed of the warnings from others. Perhaps they are worse than those who at least knows it’s a mistake but choose to look out the window. Is harried an excuse, or pride playing up.
Some look out the window and let others resolve their mistake so they can secretly learn without admitting their own mistakes. Smart or sneeky ???

    1. Ah, yes, Jasey dearest – haven’t we all met such people, such sneaky bosses brimming with pride – and a deep inferiority complex.

      Luv and hugz,
      Eric

  4. A biblical reference says that one who doesn’t learn from his/her mistake is like a dog that goes back to sniff its excreta after excretion. An insightful poem, Eric.

    1. Strange – I had to rescue this because your comment went into my WP spam folder.

Thank you, Willow dear, but no one else seems to experience this ‘like’ problem. Looks like you’re still grappling with your WP issues.

      Oh dear,
      Eric

    1. Wow! Thank you, Susan,

‘Perfect’ you say – and here I was worried that it might be a tad too heavy for a Monday.

All good wishes for the week ahead,
      Eric
P/s Careful with Orso – I read about that near accident when he had your arm pinned.

      1. No it’s the perfect way to start the week. Learning from our mistakes.

My arm still has a big knot and bruise on it. I guess my arm was the softest thing in the mix.

  5. first step to move forward, to learn is to admit that we don’t know enough, that there’s a lot to be learnt, the day we admit that to ourselves we start making progress
    loved it Eric 🙂

    1. The first step – what a giant leap for many, huh? If only some people take that revealing step – what a gush of humility and wisdom they’ll receive as a boon.

Thank you, Somi dearest, and wish you all the very best ahead,
      Eric

  6. Decisions and actions are usually running in a opposite directions… hmm harried sometimes we all are 🙂
