How I love thee not the same…
People love, adore, write poems about you
They turn away from me, eyes filled with tears
Fickle you are, raising and lowering the tides
Constant am I, providing life and sustenance
You are parched, cold and…bluish dead
I am brilliant, hot with…throbbing life
Your beauty, drawn from me
Without me, you don’t exist
My beauty is from within
Without me, no one exists
Yet, they love you more, sister Moon
Why not me, your brother Sun
Beauty over substance?
***************
The first few lines of the poems suggest envy and unhappiness. But the twist in the last two phrases were unexpected and make every phrase above totally justifiable. You always manage to pull a stunt at the end.
Gotcha 🙂
For a reason I cannot explain, this made my heart sigh. You captured something classic and timeless, a bittersweet union between the flaws of humankind through nature…. it touched something in me. Thanks so much, Eric, I really enjoyed this
love and light
Celeste
This is such a sweet comment, Celeste.
The worthy is not always rewarded by man but perhaps by god (?) Plus it is not an either or, I reckon. Peace, Eric
dont be sad dear sun, i for one love you more 🙂
Yay! 🙂
i loved it…. reading your poems makes me plan to write more though i doubt if I can write as good as you
Dear Sagarika,
I say this in all honesty. I did not study the literary arts but am an engineer at heart. If I can weave “poetry” as some call it – take confidence that you can produce better symmetry. Write from your heart and you’ll be alright. Don’t get bogged down with rhyme, rhythm, tone, cadence and all those technicalities – how else does one push out the boundaries.
All good wishes with your poetry,
Eric
hi there, old chap,
the last line was a bit of an anti-climax, had a jarring effect on my ears.
I had to run over “Why not I” again and again to convince myself that you had not commited a flagrant grammatical error:O) made the whole thing come to a screeching halt, as the more logical conclusion from my perspective would have been : “Why not ME?”
cheers,
the voice from way back … :O)
Hello there “voice from way back”
Yes, in conversation we usually say “me”…but if “me” works for you, go with it > language evolves, me 🙂 reckon
Cheers, Eric
You are so talented Eric. It is a joy to read your work!
Thank you Jeannie,
Luv and peace,
Eric 🙂
Eric this is just S U P E R B….loved it. God bless & love always…
Oh Anil,
You are so generous as usual.
Luv and peace,
Eric
(p/s For some reason my comments on your blog are not coming through – perhaps sitting in your ‘spam’ folder – would you be kind enough to check it out. Thanks)
sure – i’ll do that right away…
Substance is what counts always…..all that glitters is not gold….loove and hugs to you my buddy xxx
Hello there buddy – I loove that loove. Gave me a smile 🙂
Hi eric, you’re here 🙂 http://nenskeifacestheworld.wordpress.com/2012/03/01/ohwps-its-not-yet-over-p-43/
Ah Nenskei – there we go again 🙂
Thank you and hope you don’t mind if I take my time with this, as I am pretty tied up for now.
Cheers, Eric 🙂
It’s okay Eric 🙂
Wow, what a nice concept, I love how the sun envied the moon 😀
Thank you Therese – have a great weekend ahead, Eric 🙂
Hey Eric,
I’ve nominated you for Sunshine Award. Click here http://bluefiadiarries.wordpress.com/2012/03/01/a-sunshine-award-shines-on-me/ to know more! 🙂 Fia
Dear Fia,
Congratulations on garnering this award. You do bring sunshine 🙂
And what a wonderful and pleasant surprise for me. It is always a pleasure to be recognised by fellow bloggers.
Luv and peace, Eric 🙂
An unexpected conclusion there Eric. I wondered where you were leading us to. Well done.
Thank you Ian. Glad you liked it. Cheers, Eric
We love you too brother sun.
🙂 You are great 🙂
Unbelievably amazing!! This is what I call, “Mind-boggling”! I cannot imagine how a poem could be this powerful and yet is unshakibly true!! 🙂
Ah, once again, you are a master, Eric! You should write a poem book!! 🙂
Subhan Zein
You are too kind Pak Subhan.
One day I might compile all these into an anthology of poems for giving away. But for now, hopefully people continue to visit, read and enjoy.
All good cheer to you, Eric 🙂
Yes, an anthology of poems would be nice! Yeah, still, I just love the last two lines! They’re awesome!! 🙂
Subhan Zein
oh the competitive comparing world…instead of focusing on strength of each one mostly wanting what someone else has…
every leaf so different
every leaf so beautiful
every leaf with its own sparkle
every leaf one of its kind
what a wonderful message there Eric
It is terrible isn’t it Soma, especially when adults compare children and sow the seeds of resentment and self-doubt…
And you are so right –
Every leaf, every finger, every stripe, every tree trunk, every shell and every everything is so unique – and perfect, because these are all from One.
Wow, Eric, this is awesome – and what a message it gives us. Both are needed, each a reflection of the other, their unique qualities an integral part of the whole … whether we’re talking about the sun and moon, or about people. Awesome, I really like this. ~ Julie 🙂
That is great Julie – glad you see the multifaceted thrust of this post, as I intended. For a moment there I wondered whether I had been too figurative…
Love and peace, Eric 🙂
I think you wrote this for me today! Thanks.
It is yours – take it with my compliments 🙂
I also wish you better things forward, Eric
Envy surely does not make the Sun warmer or brighter, does it? Yet how often the more gifted and productive among us envy the two-dimensional,so-called “beautiful people”! The sunfolk need to be grateful for their own roles in this universe and cease fretting over attentions paid to other spatial entities!
You are so very right Granbee. Luv and hugz, Eric 🙂
What an interesting thought.
Hello Kilroy,
…and we witness some parents playing favourites with their children or worse >
“Why can’t you be more like your…”
Substance over everything —— !!!!!
You are not simply getting warm, Cat…you’re hot > spot on!
PEACE 🙂
