It’s ironical that in the advent of technology which emphasize on improvement, moving forward and fast, exploring new ideas and inventions; the same setup made many to become skeptical of hitting new buttons for fear of complete loss of the existing. As not to lose the current, we hit the same button and hope for a different response which at best nothing happens, but at worst everything goes to hang mode.
On the other hand, we also said “if it works, don’t fix it, ” but notice those who loves to hit all sorts of buttons and forget to restore it to the original working condition, that is also another hazard.

Comfort zones have the tendency to render many into no more than frogs in a well.
I know this local priest who flashes his lap top at every meeting he hosts, ostentatiously to convey how up to speed he is with the younger community. But the man’s thinking harks back to the 19th century and serves to drive people away. The number of new immigrants conceal the real decline in membership in his parish.

Now, I find this story quite familiar – and reckon most parents do too 🙂
Interestingly, my two girls take after me – rooms neat, tidy and everything in place. My son – although he spent two years in the military (we have national service here) and knows all about military discipline and housekeeping – but his room is a mess. He calls it ‘organised mess’ because he knows where everything is. Problem is, only he knows.

Years ago when my sister went to a psychiatrist he told her that his definition of insanity was someone who persists in doing the same thing over and over again each time with the expectation of a different result. I hasten to add that my sister is not and was not insane even though even now she often does repeat the same action expecting different results. She would probably counter that her approach is based on hope and a lack of options rather than expectation. Perhaps the same is true with that keyboard!

I believe all of us started off hitting the same button but many move away from it. It appals me that in business and government decision making, many hit the same buttons. As long as it worked once before – it should work again!
It’s like all the people who criticize their politicians – but either keep voting them in or worse, do not exercise their responsibilities.
I take particular interest in the rise of China – one sees all the danger signs. But politicians delude themselves with clichés regarding > constructive engagement (appeasement is a bad word).
What’s more, I believe your sister’s psychiatrist is right.

Sounds like my old desktop when it crashed and was giving me fits, and I kept hitting the ‘help’ or Esc keys. 🙂
LOL! Yes, and I’m sure that was not much help. And Esc does not escape – the screen simply freezes.

an excellent point. i think sometimes people are afraid to hit a different key, and their fingers easily and automatically go back to the same one over and over.
