Visitor: “Give of your talent, spread your abundance.”
Man: “I’ve none to spare, no wealth to spread.”
Visitor: “You are rich. Look within.”
Man: “My health, hands and voice, all faded – no talent remain.”
Visitor: “Aha, but time you have, that you can give.”
Man: “I’m dying, only days remain.”
Visitor: “We are agreed then, you have no use for time.”
Man: “Even my last breath not mine but to give?”
Visitor: “And what a wondrous gift, to give all. You show others how to live.”
Man: “What do you mean, to live? You seek what little I have?”
Visitor: “Then, it is little that you give.”
Man: “Leave me be, for I fear you.”
Visitor: “Fear not, as that too I shall retrieve. There!”
Man: “That leaves me nothing.”
Visitor: “Then, I’ll take nothing, and you’ll give up — nothing.”

Tomorrow – let’s lighten up somewhat
The Brothers Grinn return 😯

This back and forth conversations illustrates something we don’t want to see. But I think if we really looked at ourselves, many of us might find that we’re not living to our potential or giving all we can of ourselves.
Very true, Janna – we have much more potential than most of us give ourselves credit for. Peace, Eric
Love this Eric, excellent. I need this lesson/reminder!
Thank you , Noeleen – useful reminder for many of us, I agree. Peace, Eric
Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Even when we reach the end of the rope, maybe there is still something kinder, gentler out there waiting to guide us home?
Hello Eva dear,
Yes, I’m familiar with the Gospel of Matthew.
Definitely, something better awaits us all – if we’ll only believe. Otherwise, just like Daniel in Fallen Grace, we need to be purged first, in order to recognise Reality. This is what I believe.
Peace, Eric
I always pray that the visitor will be a kind guiding light when darkness is going to overwhelm us, so we are not alone but know that we are returning to where we come from.
i sincerely believe, when one overcomes the inbred fear, we’ll view the Visitor more as a friend and helper.
Death makes demands …I like it!!
Yes, this is one way to view it – a sort of preparation for the crossover, I reckon.
Yes definitely a cross over xx
This was very thought provoking, Eric, as I often look negatively at things, when in fact it’s always possible to find positivity when you look hard enough at what you have and can therefore give.
Thank you, Cheryl – yes, there are positives in many seemingly dark situations. All good wishes, Eric
A unique approach to remind us we have value, we just need to realize it. Thank you as always making me think a bit deeper.
We are filled with value/talent – and our giving does not stop – it makes the final journey lighter, I reckon.
’til it’s in danger of being taken away, it seems we have no idea what we have at our fingertips, Eric ,,, For most of the time, in this modern world of counting possessions rather than what’s really important, we lose track… of ourselves and others… xx
Many take stock of their possessions to gauge their worth – ignoring that ultimately, they have to leave all behind other than memories, experiences and lessons, I reckon.
Giving of your talent Eric, is both educational and entertaining.
Chris.
Yes, Chris, when we give, we experience the lightness of joy and wondrous lessons bubble forth for the giver, the receiver and the on-looker.
Having a little discussion with myself at the moment on becoming an on-looker for a period –
What is of little consequence to us could be everything to someone else… “one man’s trash is another man’s gold”
Very true, Steve – he who sees the ‘gold’ within, sees infinitely more than the one who sees only trash.
The yin and yang of existence…
if nothing is given nothing is saved
life is death…two faces…the same. Thanks Eric!
An interesting thought that – if nothing is given, nothing is saved.
The nothing becomes everything, when saved.
Thank you for this sharing, Georgia – it set me thinking.
Peace, Eric
Beautiful conversation ,the truth of life lies in such ,you are here to give even on the verge of death. A life is considered worth when you have everything given and shared .
Beautifully said, Soumya – all the more when given on the verge of death when it is precious most, and yet, serves no purpose greater than to be given away.
Peace and blessings,
Eric
A very deep message to us all
Yes, and it all depends on how deep one wants to delve. Peace, Eric
The visitor is the God of death who shows the true state of things.. Philosophical and meaningful
Yes, he could be the Great Reliever, I agree. Thank you and all good wishes, Eric
Deep…..
Thank you, Clara 🙂
Cheers, Eric
P/s Incidentally, the blog address below your name – wordpress says it does not exist – you need to check your settings
this is some intense flash fiction. Brothers Grinn tomorrow? Cool!!!!
Yes, need to lighten up somewhat – hopefully, the Brothers Grinn don’t disappoint 🙂
Oh no loved it! I enjoyed this. Flash fiction is so interesting but I am a big chicken I never try it because I never have any ideas for it.
You already weave many stories with your haiku/poems – flash fictions in verse – simply extend it a little and you’ve got it 🙂
I see the principle and philosophy in this story. What we have to offer should be given without expecting anything in return and given with a cheerful heart.
Precisely, Joyce – it was not ours to begin with – none of it, I reckon.
Very good. With a message too.
Hello, Bumba – yes, and could not resist the temptation of slipping something in 🙂
That makes it doubly interesting.
finally as bare as one came in. nice
Very true, Raghu – nakedness in every sense. Thank you for your visit and comment, Eric
A good prompt to take stock of our life. We all have something to give up to the time when breath ceases.
Thank you, Ian – ultimately, we give up everything.
