Lauren Scott, blogging as LScott Poetry, posted a poem titled Worst Critic, which inspired this post.

I looked into a mirror

Not satisfied,

I bought a new mirror

Unsatisfied,

I demanded a refund

Now, I look into the eyes

Of my loved ones

Fully satisfied

That’s all the mirror

I need ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I’m very happy to know that you’re feeling better enough to hit the keyboard.

Keep well and retain that smile ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hah! Hah! Hah!

I really don’t care much about how I look – never had – and consider this a blessing. But I do admire beauty and bearing in others.

      Much luv and hugz,
      Eric

  1. What a sweet poem. Also, great to see your smiling face on the side of the site with a new photo ๐Ÿ™‚ In addition, how wonderful that Lauren’s poem inspired this delightful read.

    1. Hello ChristyB,

Yes, Lauren’s poem truly inspired these words and I had to give her credit.

A new photo image – large enough for me to view without the benefit of reading glasses ๐Ÿ™‚

      Cheers,
      Eric

  2. Just got here from LScottPoetry to find your beautiful re-interpretation Eric. I know you are right, but it might be hard to stop railing at my mirror ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Beautiful Eric… It made me think in Sartreยดs philosophy… He once said: “Hell is the other ones”” (“Lยดenfer cยดest les autres”… We are built by the reflections we received of ourselves. Our image depends on the mirror we are reflected ..

    Best wishes, Aquileana ๐Ÿ˜›

    1. Hello Aquileana ๐Ÿ™‚

The twins – our heart and our mind – make up our mirror and we perceive the concoctions of these twins.

What you’ve said gives much fodder for thought.

      Thank you,
      Eric

  4. Reflections from the future, present, and past, the future holds the way forward, reflect it where ever you walk, go. Is a wonderful moment, seeing the future reflect back upon us, the poem speaks volumes, Eric..

      1. The good thing, we can always change, nothing is ever fixed in state until the past, and sometimes even the pasts’ reflections can alter in the future, the different ways we guide ourselves, how we reflect. Reflecting now as to whether what I just wrote made sense.

Peace from a long shore, Sean

      2. Hello Eric, a question; How does one like a comment? I’ve only had it happen twice to comments I’ve made around the place, but could not work out how it’s done.

      3. Hello Sean:

Go to Dashboard > Click on Comments
Click on Screen Options > found Top R/H
        Check the star

You can set up your blog but cannot click ‘like’ on blogs not set up. Obviously, I set mine to give everyone (including moi) another option ๐Ÿ™‚

        Cheers,
        Eric

  5. This is a beautiful continuation of my poem, Eric, and exactly my feelings as well. We are our own worst critics, but our loved ones remind us of our true beauty! Thanks for the “mention” too!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. We read and inspire one another – the beauty of sharing on Blogsville ๐Ÿ™‚

It was my pleasure to mention you and thank you, Lauren.

      – Eric –

  6. I chose the mirror carefully, it had doors.
I closed them till I was ready to look.
I locked them and lost the key.
Then, I looked through the eyes of others, who smiled
I learned to fear less the mirror
I learned to fear more my own mind and its creative interpretations

Loved your poem Eric, thought I would add my thoughts not poetry but thoughts.

    1. Wow! This is so lovely and says so much, Val dear

You’ve expressed your thoughts in verse and it sure reads like poetry.

Very true – its not the mirror that reflects us poorly – but our mind slants the interpretation.

We are our worst judges. I sometimes cannot escape the feeling that others – especially loved ones – forgive me more readily than I forgive myself.

Thank you, Val, for having enhanced this post with your comment.

  7. โ€œThe mirror crack’d from side to side
“The curse has come upon me,” cried
    The Lady of Shalottโ€

…so you’re also safer now Eric.

    A tender conception nicely executed.

  8. The concrete mirror has no expectation. You as your own mirror has expectations and hope to be different. Your loved ones as your mirror has different expectations which most of the time you feel you fall short of. I should really hate mirrors.
But you are right – if the eyes of your loved ones reflect satifaction, that is all you need.
Your new photo looks handsome and cheerful !

    1. Hello Jasey dearest,

We see the reflection of our true image in the eyes of our loved ones and you’re right – that’s all we need.

Okay, my photo looks handsome – that’s a start. In time, hope that I look handsome too – a little bit of Mechanic Leigh logic here ๐Ÿ™‚

      Luv and hugz,
      Eric
