Folderol is the word, I reckon and it says as much or more about the people…
My sister in Australia related how, after more than 5 years, they learnt that their next door neighbour was a ‘doctor’. Though close, the man is so unassuming, he always introduced himself by his first name, said something vague about working in a hospital. Apparently, he is quite an accomplished man who is quoted extensively in medical journals…
I have not read this term “cockerel feathers” since putting down a volume of my grandfathers’ Grimms Fairy Tales when I was about 10 years old! Wonderful term–and wonderful way to define what often lies beneath a lot of the folderol of “awards” given by man.

Okay – now this reply is in its rightful place π

I have read this many times today…trying to decode it… finally it hit the point…innerself vs. outerself…true worth is what we have inside.
Wow Eric! Keep them coming..
Oh dear – I hope I didn’t make it too vague. Thank you for making the effort.
The words can also touch related areas: For example some people insist on being addressed with honorifics β Sir, Father (for a priest) or Reverend, Mister, Doctor > as though without these titles, their worth diminishes. I see doctors wearing stethoscopes even to the toilet, or pilots wearing their flame retardant suits for lunch in restaurants, etc.
Then there are those who give themselves titles > Intellectual, Guru, Deep Thinker, Mystic, and so forth. How does one become a Mystic β I wonderβ¦
I’m not suggesting that titles are unimportant – as long as they do not become crutches to prop up one’s self worth.
A person’s true worth does not come from a signboard – but from within, I reckon. From the way he conducts himself in thought/speech/action > we’ll know whether he is a “deep thinker” etc.
as in … medals and titles are like cockerel feathers, they make the bearers look larger in value/appearance to the outside world, but the real worth of a person is what lies within? (just venturing a guess) π
I LIKE FANCY CLOTHES SOMETIMES –

Hello Cat, I totally, totally agree with you. I too love to dress up – both for my job and also I feel good. (Kissing babies – I was refering to politicians)
But, as you say, what is more important is within us π
You are so right – my words (hopefully) leave all to draw their own conclusions.
Luv and peace, Eric π

Well said, Eric.
The next time you meet a cock – de feather it and have a great laugh π
This makes me think that what can a man ( or woman ) say –
I am… ( my job ), ( my possessions), ( what someone tells me )…
poetry that makes one ask questions is always good…
For many are cripples and need crutches.
Peace and blessings keep us all company,
Eric
Very simple and to the point.
Truth does not need a spin doctor – it springs forth naturally, I reckon.
Thank you Richard, for taking the trouble to come here.
You’re welcome. It’s really no trouble at all.
Eric – short and sweet!
Thank you Steve.
That gave me a mental recall of bantam roosters that used to prance around our farm full of their own importance and tolerant of none other.
…like chicken, like man… π
I love this one, Eric, and such a deep and true meaning. xx
Jesus was not a man of letters or lettered. He hung naked on the cross – did that diminish Him in any way?
Oh, you small men within and without the fold, why do you adorn yourself so…have you not learnt from our Teacher.
…and so we shall stand before God in all our nakedness for that is the way through the needle’s eye.
And, again, very well expressed~

what u really are inside at the core of your heart..
that deserves medal n honor
not the outer fake appearnce
Very true Jyoti – what we think, say and do > reflects that which is inside
We should marvel at his/her thoughts, reflect on his/her words and applaud his/her deeds
Love this…it matters not the adornment but the acts and heart within – much love buddy xx
You got it buddy! I knew you’ll come through π
so agree with you.
We see this all around don’t we – all the piss and pomposity…

Absolutely Dee – this is what I wished to convey.
But there is also enough flex in these words for other conclusions to be drawn – as noted by Cat Forsley…
Not sure why, but I like it. Hmm.. π
No worries – sometimes I feel the same about a post > enjoy it but unable to articulate the reasons – so, I tick ‘Like’ and move on.
You did more, you even commented – thank you π
LOVE IT ————
NO FEATHERS NEEDED ….JUST HEART ………
THAT’S COURAGE π
Well said, Cat – all one needs is heart π
But most of these people who wear fancy robes and walk piously or smile and kiss babies – they travel light, no heart…
