Writing

An aircraft engineer, logistician, and former corporate executive, Eric Alagan is also a keen observer of people.

Like many self-taught authors, Eric flowed with his muse and wrote thrillers, humour and even non-fiction. His writing gravitated to his passion for history and interest in geopolitics.

Now, he focuses on historical fiction rich in convoluted plots.

Eric’s novels draw from historical facts; myths; legends; and mores of the times. His stories fill with realism and transports the reader to experience life as it was in centuries past.

To give his muse an avenue for expression, Eric uses this blog. He writes flash fiction, haiku and verse in all genres.

He spends a typical day, reading, researching, writing, and revising his manuscripts.

Hobbies

He is also an exercise junkie and enjoys his daily walk-a-jogs. He loves road-biking. But after his 90-year-old grandma beat him in a cycling race, he stays away from road-biking.

He wanted to take up sky-diving but Grandma beat him to it tooβ€”she already has 84 jumps to her credit including 12 free-falls from 15,000 feet. Grandma is also into rock-climbing, lumber-jacking and scuba-diving.

Eric has decided that he will simply try to out-live her.

  2. Hello Eric,

Glad to know that you and the 90 year old aunty are still competing and staying young.

I have been following your blog since the day you started and have seen your great versatility in writing. Over the years, you have presented varied subjects, styles, techniques and types of writing, provoking your readers to think, evaluate and immerse ourselves. Your blog is like a never ending journey of discoveries, surprises and twisted humors. Most creditable of all are your response to every single comments, where you took great effort to thank and very often build on with further inspirational stories or haiku. Whether it is a flash fiction, a short story, haiku, poem or business subjects, you commit significant effort.

My sincere wish for your work to be recognized so the world can enjoy and benefit from your talent. I believe that God gives us talent so we can share, improve and inspire. Your perseverance is commendable and I will always root for you.

    1. You’re ever so kind and encouraging, Windy,

Thank you so very much and I hope your wishes (and mine) regarding my work comes true.

Perseverance and constantly learning and applying new knowledge and skills are keystones. And a dose – a very large dose – of luck plays its part too, I reckon.

Thank you for keeping me company in spirit. πŸ™‚

      All good wishes,
      Eric

  3. Hi Eric,

I don’t know why I haven’t visited this page before, but I just did and love it. Great photos and kudos for the cycling, too! Not to get mushy, but I’ve truly appreciated your long-time support to my blog and all your wonderful comments that have kept me going. I truly believe that this blogging forum is another form of classroom; there is so much to learn. Anyway, thanks for your ongoing support and friendship in this online world. Keep up your awesome fiction and haiku writing, also! I’m always in awe with each new visit.

Cheers, and have a great week!

    1. Hello Lauren,

Lovely of you to visit and you’ve come bearing gifts of high praise. I’ll try to live up to at least some of them πŸ™‚

You’re right, I’ve always seen blogging as a platform to meet people from all over the world. And what a learning experience! So, very true.

As bloggers/writers we all need one another to cheer us on, and lift us up when required. Over the years, I’ve had several bloggers private message me via email and that has been another level of interaction.

Like you, when life caught up, I dropped off blogging. But I’m glad to be back and shall continue for as long as possible.

All good wishes, my dear, and god bless you and your loved ones,
      Eric πŸ™‚

      1. You’ll always live up to the praise, Eric, and I agree with all you said, too. There was a time when I thought I was completely done with blogging and writing, but I was inspired again, and so it continues…glad to have you back and God Bless you and your loved ones, as well…

  4. Hi Eric, me again πŸ™‚

I hope you don’t mind me reaching out in a comment — I couldn’t find a way to contact you privately (you can always delete this comment…)

I wrote a new blog post recently:

    https://wibble.blog/2018/02/27/using-gravatar-to-build-traffic/

… and since then I’ve been paying more attention than I used to to which Gravatars link to their owners’ websites… and which didn’t. I was surprised to find that yours doesn’t! This makes it more difficult for others to find you. Please take a look at my blog post linked above, which explains the easy steps you can take to fix this πŸ™‚

    1. Hello Colin,

Thanks to your clear instructions, I added my websites to my avatar.

I recall having set-up this feature but for reasons unknown, the websites section had disappeared. But no worries, I’m back on again, thanks to you.

      Cheers,
      Eric

  5. Hi, Eric. Just tried to follow a link from a comment you’d made on ‘Wibble’, expecting to find your site. I was met with a page that said ‘ericalagan.wordpress.com doesn’t exist’. You might want to look into this, as you will be missing out on traffic to your site because of your name change. You should be able to set things up so that http://ericalagan.wordpress.com/ acts as an alias for http://ericalagan.net/ericalagan/ — which would mean that the great many old links that exist to your site still work.

Here’s hoping you’re well, and wishing you all the best for 2016!

    1. Thank you for this heads up.
I’ve “changed” to ericalagan.net several years ago and it has been working fine. Perhaps WordPress is playing up. I’ll contact them.

I’m well and trust that all is well in your neck of the woods too.
      All good wishes for 2016,
      Eric

    2. Oh, okay I see the issue now > “ericalagan.wordpress.com” was never my domain name and I’m stumped how it shows up in your blog as belonging to me.
Anyway, many thanks for the visit and alert.
      Cheers!

      1. From what I know about how these website thingies are set up (I used to be in that business myself, many moons ago) I bet ‘ericalagan.wordpress.com’ is the subdomain of wordpress.com you were allocated when you set your account up — in the same way that pendantry.wordpress.com is the address of my blog ‘Wibble’.

I’m just trying to help… I believe you will be losing traffic as a result of this, and would suggest you check your DNS configuration to add ‘ericalagan.wordpress.com’ as an alternative to ‘ericalagan.net’.

      2. Hello Colin,
I truly appreciate your concern and help – please don’t get me wrong. I did a self check – WordPress allows this – whether traffic is re directed and confirmed that it is so. When I first registered with WordPress the sub domain β€˜ericalagan.wordpress.com’ was already taken up by someone else and I had to use another sub domain.

But I’ll recheck with WordPress Support.

        Many thanks πŸ™‚

  6. It is a delight to discover your blog. I look forward to reading your posts. (BTW, I occasionally edit technical copy for engineers–a different breed of creatives–and appreciate their work). You apparently have left/right brain activity galore.

    1. Hello Catherine,

Great to have you here and welcome aboard. I visited your blog and clicked to receive your posts too.

We are all complex, I suppose, and thanks to our education system, sometimes we tend to put people in pigeon holes. I believe everyone uses their logical and creative sides. However, some disciplines do tend to view these abilities in narrower regimes, as it helps with better understanding.

Thank you for your kind words and we’ll bump into one another, again – I’m sure.

      All good wishes,
      Eric

    1. Well Huntie,

I feel honoured truly, but for now, have to decline due to deadlines.

But tell you what – I’m going to keep this in view and probably tackle it sometime in June, if it’s okay.

You’re full of praises for my writing – and I hope to be able to live up to them.

With humble thanks and all good wishes in return,
      Eric

  7. Congrats on your new book! Shared shared and shared πŸ™‚ Wishing you a wonderful day. Happy ‘Book’day…. because it is kinda like having a birthday

    1. Hello Claire,

We’re in the same boat and I wish you all the best with your virtual party and new book launch too πŸ™‚

It’s not my first book – but the first which I’m marketing and self distributing.

God willing, everything is possible πŸ™‚

      Cheers,
      Eric

  8. Hopefully that has sorted it, I’m sorry, it didn’t really go the way I’d planned there but again, thanks for your support and I hope you will continue to read my blog even after that mishap!

    1. No worries – I left the following on your About page – please confirm that I’m on the right blog πŸ™‚

“Hello Jessica – looks as if you sorted out that computer glitch. All good wishes with your blogging πŸ™‚ Eric”

      Cheers,
      Eric

    1. You’ll have to redo your settings, Jessica

Check the WP forum pages or Tutorials for help. If all else fails – contact WP Support. Your link is driving traffic to the wrong site.

      All good wishes,
      Eric
