  1. Dear Eric,

Good to be back, and I actually composed a tiny post, in honor of your kind words.

You continue to inspire me, and countless others, so once again does it remain my pleasure to peruse your paragraphs.

    Warmest wishes, my friend,
    Paul 😁🙃😀

    1. Dear Paul,

Thank you for your post. Effusive and I fear you think too well of me and my work.

But I am glad that you decided to write again. And can only hope that you keep at it.

      All my best and more,
      Eric 🙂

  2. Just Eschew It.

Disregard the feeble marketing ploys of conglomerates that wish to entertain your orbs…and pocketbook. Utter nonsense, indeed!

Good to be here with you, Sir Eric, and ‘‘tis rather grand to once again witness your words.

I possess not a single article of clothing that screams a logo. I do not ‘click’ any advert; nay, far from it as I simply purchase attire wholly unattended to the ravages of market exploitation. Yeah, sure, they do of course have labels. Yet they do not shout out to the world what I wear. Does that resonate?

Anyway, dear friend, good to be back in the mix.

I bid you a pleasant nocturne.

    Warmest wishes,
    Paul 🙃😀🙃

    1. Dear Paul

So good of you to drop over and with a well-thought through comment. I trust and hope that all is well with you and your loved ones.

Not a single article with a brand name. Wow! That takes a conscious and determined attempt to cut your own path. My sincere respects.

I enjoyed your speculative flash fiction, and hope you’ll continue to post on your blog and entertain your ardent readers such as yours truly.

All good wishes and hope to “see” more of you,
      Eric 🙂

  3. I just had cataract surgery so my eyeballs are seeing all kinds of new things! I attempt to be objective but agree that the barrage of commercials, both visual and audio, which surround, not merely in the streets but everywhere else accomplish their intended mission as well as unnecessarily polluting the environment.

    1. Hello Jane,

Cataract seems to be another rite of passage for people of our age, or so it seems. I hope the scars heal well.

You’re right. These commercials produce results. The world is filled with lemmings. But I confess that I too succumbed to the advertisers’ blandishments – until about 20 years. ago.

      All good wishes,
      Eric

  4. At first, I thought you brought us to one of those street of special delicacies “eye balls”, LOL. Must be my muzzy head acting up.

It is what it is these days, pay through our nose for anything that catches the eye balls.

    1. Hello Windy,

Those dizzying lights can make anyone want to scoot to the countryside. Problem is, in Singapore the idiots in government had brought the concrete and neon even to the parks.

      Peace,
      Eric

  5. I’d never thought of that before. Indeed we all pay the price of various corporation marketing tools don’t we when we buy those enticing products advertised. It’s built into the price. We could probably dig deeper philosophically on that one too Eric.

    1. Hello Ian,

Knew someone in Singapore customs. He refused to buy any of the so-called branded shoes. He claimed that the landed cost was less than $10 but at that time those shoes were retailing at about $250 or more.

Yes, one can get philosophical 🙂

      Cheers!
      Eric

      1. I never buy brands unless they are on a deal not to be missed for the same reason. I wonder if the big brands make their stuff in China in the same factories that make the counterfeits Eric? 🙂

      2. Hello Ian,

Good for you. Yes, about 20 years ago, I started waiting for deep-discounted sales before buying. China is the largest sweat factory of the world. The branded shoes I referred to were in the 1990s and made in Indonesia. And yes, many of the big brands are now in China.

BTW, I’ve since discovered that China makes some very good quality products now. But these are their local unknown brands – so the prices are very low. For example, last year I bought a pair of hiking boots that cost me all of S$18. A similar model from Timberland costs S$220.

Trust your week is going well,
        Eric

      3. One of the computers we use on our TVs is a Lenovo and I would classify it as up with the best. I think their factory makes some of the well known American brands too. China has come a long way technologically. However parts for anything from cars to household goods are resourced from all over the world and assembled in different countries. That’s why trade wars hurt everyone including the one targeting others.

    1. Hello Bill,

      That’s for sure 🙂

      Cheers!
      Eric
