I never appreciated us as a family so much as now when my grandchildren are approaching 20 years old. Now I can experience how things are handed down from one generation to the next.
There’s much to commend in the undivided household which used to be practiced in Asia and in some places still is. Each generation can profit from close association and it helps build a healthy lifestyle for all. In today’s world where society pressures divide the family there is an accompanying incidence of health issues.
In Singapore, even today 3-generational families are common. Many of the families in my apartment block are 3-generational.
But all three of my children married and moved out – as Lisa and I did when we tied the knot. It has probably to do with having travelled widely and lived overseas before marriage.
That’s new but you’re right – health issues. Did not think of that until you mentioned it now.

I like the concept of a third wind. You are right all the grandparents and great -grandparents that I know are immensely proud of their grand-children and love being with them.
Some grandparents said they feel old having grandchildren but deep down they love them tremendously. I think the most endearing sight is when grandparents are with the grandchildren, such an age gap but love is the universal link.
