  1. Dear Eric, I’ve been reading backwards, and your blog is one of the few in which the comments are as profound and meaningful as the orginial blog… I love your responses, and the wisdom in your words, as well as the apt haikus…
You amaze me, and awe me with your spontaneous gift of poetry…

    1. Valerie my dear,
You’re so very profuse with your kind words of encouragement—and this from a writer like you whose life experiences and stories I admire immensely.
It seems so inadequate to say only this—but,
      Thank You 🙂
      Eric

      His gift, not my skill
His wisdom, I wield the quill
      Blessed, I remain.

      1. Dear Eric
Your haiku is exquisite in so many ways. May I copy it, and use it in my tailpiece that I call Food for Thought at the end of my blog,- with, of course, acknowledgements to you, its ‘onlie begettor’
Did Shakespeare spell ‘begettor’ with an
‘e’ or an ‘o’… ? will have to look it up.
        with much love, Valerie

      2. Dear Valerie,
Yes, please feel free to use my haiku.
        “begetter” – I believe it’s with an “e”.
        Luv and hugz back,
        Eric
P/s. I’m catching up on my reading and will drop by your blog asap. Miss my dose of your nice stories 🙂

    1. Hello Michelle,
Trust the weekend is going well for you.
Thank you for your visit and comment,
      Eric

      1. Thanks, Eric, it is! We are having dinner with our youngest son and his lovely family.

Sometimes that is the best hiding place.

    1. Hello Rabirius,

      What you say is true.

      Peace,
      Eric

    1. Dear Lauren,

I believe that energy fuels all life—all thoughts, words, and actions—and energy cannot be destroyed. Taken in that metaphysical sense, written words don’t die.

All of us—every single one of us—leave behind imprints that never die. That’s what I believe.

All good wishes to a dear friend,
      Eric

      1. I wholeheartedly agree with you, Eric, and thus, the title of your blog….Written Words Never Die…
Keep writing haiku, as you continue to wear the crown of king!

  2. Perhaps we should send them your haiku on Needle’s Eye and hope that they will show us some mercy and be generous. Why build wealth that probably you cannot spend all in your lifetime.

    1. Hello Windy dear,

If I sent them the needle, they will probably plagiarize the design, make billions of replicas and try to corner the needle market for themselves 🙂

Thank you for your comment – it gives hope but a tenuous one, I’m afraid.

      Luv and hugz,
      Eric

  3. When I saw Pharaoh in the title in my mail in-box I guessed that this one was going to be about the horse American Pharaoh. How wrong I was!
Your comment is profound as are all your haiku; but every rule has exceptions – Gandhi, Mother Teresa etc. and I’m glad that this is so.

    1. Hello Jane dear,

That’s interesting – American Pharaoh – your comment prompted me to look it up.

True, what you say, every observation has exceptions.

When treading on a dark heaving ocean, we are euphoric when we spot those pin-pricks of light—for these give us hope—as do the luminaries you mention, both my heroes, including Nelson Mandela.

      Peace,

  4. Isn’t that so true, she says writing on a bank holiday with no access to lucre on forced labour-free day. Every cloud. 🙂

    1. Hello Sarah,

      I love your comment 🙂

Same here, I write or edit every day – every single day. There are no holidays—let alone paid holidays—for us writers who are still struggling to make it.

      All good wishes ahead,
      Eric

  5. My Dear Eric,

    Manacles cut deep
    Financiers tally coinage
    Populace purloined

And we readily succumb to the juggernaut of banksters and the myriad of bread & circuses thrust into our daily lives. Only an uprising from the people will the shackles be shorn, the Deep State cartel of oil-pharma-banking, et al, thus quashed and tossed into an oubliette.

Thank you once again, my friend, for a thought-provoking poem. It makes one pause to contemplate how each of us chooses to spend precious time.

    warmest wishes your way,
    Paul

    1. Hello Paul, dear friend,

As always, you came through bearing well thought responses and also a gift of a haiku. Thank you 🙂
Your words ring true. Oil, pharma, banking.
My favourite whipping pigs are priests, politicians, and bankers.

      Peace,
      Eric

  6. I gave this one a lot of thought before responding. It’s true! It’s the motivation that pushes people to want to control and wars this has caused since antiquity that establishes temporary control over these resources. It is temporary. The powerful eventually make a mistake or weaken and someone else grabs the reins of power. Always the silent majority submits meekly when its apparent an individual is there to dig in for the present reign.

    1. Hello Ian,
Your observations are spot on. The motivations of a small greedy group to grab temporal power, and the apathy of the majority who allow it.
      Peace,
      Eric

    1. Hello Colin,
Good of you to share your haiku – very apt too.
      Cheers,
