  1. I wholeheartedly agree that reading a story / description evokes the imagination more than a movie in which one gets someone else’s interpretation. And, yes I believe that our human inventive powers are what has advanced us as a species. This is why we need to focus on ways in which children’s imaginative skills are honed and developed. I believe that spoon fed videos, and video games thwart creativity. Children need free play and plenty of reading! I’ve wandered a little from your evocative post but sincerely thank you for the thoughtful (imaginative) prod!

    1. Hello Jane,

First, off – thank you for your visit and sharing. Always a pleasure to read your well thought and useful comments.

Wander away from the post as much as you wish – that’s the idea behind an author’s words – to poke and prod 🙂

Yes, it is sad that technology while enabling, when misused, also stifles. I am in total in agreement – total – that children need free play and plenty of reading to hone their cognitive and imaginative skills.

I also believe that written words are more enduring than videos and other mediums that require power to boot and access. Ancient tablets and cave scratches hold lessons. But like you, I’ve digressed.

Wishing you all the best for the week ahead,
      Eric

  2. Hello Eric,
This is in the realm where we become what we can’t be in reality.
Spread our wings and fly or have gills to dive into the beauty of the deep ocean.
Be a celebrity, a fire breathing dragon, maybe even god,
Yes, imagination is beyond limits, defies logic and you don’t have to pay tax to own it, ha,ha,ha…

Hope you had a good weekend.

    1. Hello Ian,
True. It does not matter how many times one fails, I reckon. Most successful people have an elbow-length list of failures and wrong turns. It is that one win that counts – and we can thank imagination for it.
Trust your weekend had been great,
      Eric

    1. That’s succinct, Ina.

But then again, as someone who writes wonderful haiku – you’re an expert in saying much with little.

      All good wishes,
      Eric

    1. Hello Sarah,

Movies quite often leave very little or nothing for us to visualize. That is the nature of the medium.

The written word, on the other hand, leaves everything for us to visualize. A tall stern man – is descriptive but not definitive – leaving much for us to imagine.

In this regards, one can immerse in a novel and let our imagination take over, I reckon.

      All good wishes,
      Eric
P/s Hope you are feeling better and managed to shake off that cold.

      1. US-caught colds are more persistent than UK ones it seems. I’m still walking round with a pocket full of tissues. Thanks for asking.
