Yes, I’ve read those true life incidences you related. They are so fortunate to have met you and more fortunate to have you nurtured their capabilities. It is only after they produced the results that others realized but quietly keep within themselves how “wrong” they were.
I was interviewed by a senior partner of a law firm and he hired me on the spot. The next day when the office manager who acts as the hiring manager turned up, she told me straight to my face that she would never hire me because of my age. She felt that younger girls are far more efficient and flexible. Lucky for me, she was away that day. When my boss decided that I report to him direct unlike the other secretaries who reports to her, that really did not go down well. So much for “professionalism.”
These hiring managers breed a culture of discrimination based on age. Now, when they are in their 50s, they wonder why they are discriminated based on their age.

Well, yes of course. Thankfully we don’t all see things in the same way and don’t all want the same brass ring. Wonderful that we can be different, even today.
The higher the plane, the more common. The deeper we drill – snow flakes, we all are.
It happens many times during interview that people tends to judge by the outlook of a person. Rate of a person less presentable getting employed is lower than a better looking person even if he/she performs better. Seems too difficult to see beyond the looks. The rare gem within takes an open minded person to discover.
