You are right in that, blogging does sap one’s time, energy and ability to write novellas, let alone novel-length works. My dropping off the blogging grid these past few months is primarily because of these downsides.
The upsides are – I like to think that I’m honing my skills for writing ultra short stories – flash fiction, if you like. I converted many of these into short film scripts – yes, I also write screenplays, as you know.
Coming back to Mechanic Leigh – yes, I recall we both started our “series” about the same time. Mechanic Leigh is now a book and I’m in the process of converting the episodes into a TV series.
I’ve also converted my Brothers Grinn stories into two novel length books – but turning these into a TV series would be tougher because of the nature of the Brothers Grinn antics 🙂
I did not plan to write screenplays or convert my blog posts into books – these ideas came later, because, I’m not one to fritter away my efforts or output.

Wonderful, thought-provoking poem, Eric. Self-righteousness does act as a shield for bigotry. We must look beyond that. Good to see a post from you… of course I’m days behind in reading, which seems to be the norm lately 🙂 Hope you are doing well!

I just finished some rehearsals on set yesterday with full cast and crew – Gosh! It can be draining – but also great fun. There’s something else that is great fun and draining and starts with an “s” 👿

It’s been a long while Eric, but you are back to get our grey cells churning.
Piety is a very useful and simplest weapon to veil not just bigotry but many other unpleasant thoughts or acts. Most are drawn to the pious and rarely recognize beyond the surface.

I thought that I’ll return to blogging when time permits – but time is shrinking and I decided to set aside some of it.
Regarding piety – it’s bad enough when lay people harbour and practise bigotry. But I know several priests and nuns who preach universal love but practise bigotry.

Brilliant Eric! The question is why isn’t it evident to more people? Perhaps, deep down they don’t want to ‘see’?
It’s easier not to see it or worse, acknowledge it – in others, as well as in self. To do so, might compel one to DO something about it, I reckon. What was it they say about “ignorance” and “bliss”?

One can never wholly eradicate bigotry and all its manifestions. “Eracism” is not possible; both lurk just below the surface, simmering like some seism, smoking and belching putrid fetid fumes into all societies.

Perhaps, all of us suffer from varying degrees of bigotry and at various times. But only some of us recognise and actively try to discard it. Others, as David said, try to rationalize it or, are delusional.
