In a flock, one can’t differentiate one flamingo from the other.
Get closer and we note the peculiarity of each bird.
Get closer and … extrapolate …
Why “identically different” 🙂
A quote from Fallen Grace : “You toss up the pieces and it never falls into place in exactly the same pattern twice.”
There is plenty more than meets the eye > Be Gone Satan!

Beautiful, and deep, poem. On the surface, “identically different” seems like an oxymoron, but with more thought, it makes perfect sense.
Clever oxymorons 🙂
A high five and a haiku for you…
Same yet different
That is natures clever game
Individuals
Compliments of Humorous Interludes
© 2013 Ronald J. Yarosh
Good one, Ron – should the last sentence include an “all” to complete the 5-7-5
Cheers, Eric
P/s Then again, “individuals” can be a 5, I suppose.
I counted it as five, in·di·vid·u·al. (I got that from the dictionary in Word).
I suppose it can be pronounced as a four depending on the region of the world. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for your comment. Ron
Oh, no need to apologise, Ron – I wasn’t sure whether it was 4 or 5. Thank you for clarifying. Love the haiku.
Genius! you are an amazing writer!
Thank you, Millie, for your kind comment 🙂
I consider my own children: all six of them were raised in the same home, shared experiences and a similar environment, yet each one is unique. Multiply six times the infinite number of our Father’s children and the unique similarities are dazzling. Another of the wonders of God, manifest through His creations. Blessings, Peg.
Yes, humans are a wonder of creation. Peace, Eric
Just so you know, your post partly inspired mine today, Eric. 🙂
Blessings,
Peg
Yes, Peg, I read “Like Sparrows’ Wings” and gathered the theme – very happy to have triggered this. Let’s keep spreading it around 🙂
Well done Eric! It is a good poem, and the ensuing discussion a credit to its provocative nature. It all makes me think of snowflakes, something you don’t see in Singapore. All, to borrow your provocative phrase, are identically different and so beautiful both individually and together. Perhaps mankind hasn’t attained their full collective beauty yet.
Cheerio, Jane
Hello Jane,
Snowflakes look different > but each one is uniquely shaped
Broken down to water, molecules, atoms, protons, electrons, neutrons > identical constituents
Rejoin the constituents in every which way > wondrous permutations
Where does this stop > I wonder
Identically different: that’s a beautifully succinct way of summing up the human race. This is brilliance. 🙂
Thank you, David, for the compliment. Peace, Eric
That’s the beauty of it, being different, but it doesn’t mean being less or more.
Very nice poem.
At a certain level, we are all equal but at the human level – which is the lowest level, I reckon – inequality rages
No matter how similar we seem, we each come at life with a different set of references, making it impossible for us to ever be the same.
Yes, we do bring to the table different references. The challenge is to make these divergences complementary rather than destructive.
I wonder if one day we’ll all fit together as a large and intricate puzzle, Eric, our differences being the key to all things Universal…. 🙂 xPenx
Dear Penny G,
Your comment rings a cosmic truth, I reckon. You might want to check out this short poem of mine > Creation Fails Without You > http://wp.me/p1YE83-9y
Peace, Eric
very nice – similarity and difference are the tools of creation – where one ends and another begins makes it so interesting – i read some where that we need to ponder the origins of the word individual which actually means that which canot be seperated from a whole whereas with our egos we are dividuals rather than individuals (Bohm) – what a wonderful concept – identically different – so true, every bit of one human is identical in shape and form to the other yet no two fingerprints match.
I love your comment, Indrajit.
Like you, I’m no teacher nor a preacher but a seeker. Occasionally, I prick and marvel at all the wisdom that flows out of the readers here. I believe that all of us are immensely wise beyond our own human understanding – wisdom accummulated over past lives, wisdom dammed and awaiting the moment a wedge is dislodged before it flows out in measured portions at appropriate times – for a fleeting peek into the Marvellous Beyond.
In this, we are all one and yet, different.
Peace, Eric
Eric thanks – my ego is working overtime now lol
More seriously, WordPress is a gold mine, thanks to those who conceived it seeking to make the better best with all there care and stats and widgets and support and tools – who would go to so such lengths except the committed – enabling like minded possibly rare individuals to come together on one platform – i recal once a very learned bishop with whom i shared my thoughts said, there are very few alas out there who would understand or be interested in what you say – here there are many – and one more thing, if you havent read my post ‘Of Similarity and Difference’ and the one about ‘Four Cats’ after that then please do – it matches the thoughts of your post nicely – and i would appreciate your comments on them – good wishes – Indrajit
Hahaha…identically different! Marvellous oxymoron. And the world is a more colourful place because of that. Now, come to think of it, should humanity not strive to complement one another with our unique strengths and weaknesses rather than compete and decimate?
Complement instead of compete – now that is a mantra worth living by, I reckon.
We each can contribute in our own little ways, Vera. I make it a point to smile at people I meet – the HDB block sweeper, the ah soh who cleans the tables in the hawker centre and so. Some of them stare back – think I must be weird. I keep smiling and after a few days, they look forward to exchanging smiles with me – a great feeling.
All good wishes,
Eric
Hi Sir Eric,
I’ve read same quote a this and yeah I like it so much! 🙂
By the way sir, you have purchased already your own domain.. wow… that’s cool.
Hello Jon,
Nice to have you drop by – it has been a while and happy to re-connect 🙂
Yes, I decided to acquire the domain – it took awhile to realise that I’m going to keep blogging.
All good wishes,
Eric
Yes sir that’s great!
and mine has just expired and I never renewed it :P… ill be renewing soon… for a new fresh domain again.
keep in touch sir Eric 🙂
So much said in so few words. We are all very similar and all very different at the same time. By Jove, I think I’ve got it. Thanks Eric.
Depending on how deep we gaze, we are one and different – you got it right my dear.
Hope all went well in the office, Susan.
Enjoyed that little horror flick you wrote – Cara might reappear as Kara.
Peace, Eric
Beautiful Eric, We are all so alike and so different just like shades of greens in a same plant..
So very true Somi dear – yes, I didn’t think of this – even the same plant variety exhibit different shades. I learnt something new – Thank you 🙂
Yes, we are all unique.
Very true, Ian, it nevers falls exactly the same 🙂
Not being able to see the forest for the trees…or not being able to see the trees for the forest and can we go one step further…lovey meditation today Eric…thanks for sharing it!
Thank you Georgia and you’re welcome – yes, it does make one ponder, I reckon. Peace, Eric
i loved this one “identically different” perfect!
Thank you, dear – that’s my favourite phrase too 🙂
Each of us want to be different too, though confining ourselves to the same norms..an interesting post
That’s interesting isn’t it – what most of us strive for – diversity within conformity or is it, conformity in diversity 🙂
yes:) Flamingos as you said, and also Zebras perhaps.. They look identical, but apparently can be differentiated..
I think Max Granky is trying, perhaps unsuccessfully, to be more identically different than most…
LOL. Yes, knowing Max Granky – his cod piece is identically different, me thinks 🙂
Hi Eric –
that falling into pieces reminds me of poetry, could we write the exact poem a week later, or would some word or syllable differ just because we are different than we were a week ago?
I share your sentiments, Bill.
If writing from memory, obviously we ‘youngens’ 🙂 might not get it spot on the second time.
But I follow what you mean. Everytime I revisit a poem written by a master – I perceive meanings and nuances that missed me earlier. Living words, these – and mirror our life experiences and ‘evolution’ as it were.
Cheers, Eric
