A good friend Eva, blogging as thejerseygal, commented on my post SLEEP. That triggered this short poem.

A Drop of Ocean

Do these lines speak to you – what do they say?

Love to hear your thoughts.

  1. The infinite continuum. All is One and less and more share the journey. Lovely, in the simplicity. I imagine that desert blooming from that magnificent little drop. A desert in bloom is an amazing sight. Thanks Eric

    1. Yes, you’re so right – “a desert in bloom” in all senses of that phrase, magnificient indeed.

      All good wishes Jeanne,
      Eric
P/s I’m following your blog and hope to read more of your works 🙂

    1. Yes, most of my posts tend to be short – visitors/readers generally shun long posts – though, where the contents are captivating, all bets are off. Experts suggest a mix of short/long posts. I usually post one ‘long’ post on Sundays – my Fallen Grace series and even then, it is less than 3 minutes read.

Thank you for your kind words,
      Eric

  2. as a drop of love would bring
    respite to the dried heart,
    as a drop of smile
could fill happiness in a sad heart,
    a drop of water thus
    becomes an ocean
    on the parched part!

It was very deep and insightful Eric!

    1. Thank you sweet Soumya for your visit and contribution.

This is simply superb, if I might say so. Deep theme, exquisite words.

It comes in at 36 words – and needs some trimming. How about this:

If you agree. Or, feel free to amend as you see fit.

Have a great weekend ahead dear,

  3. The above poem is beautiful, Eric. For one without life, it is a breath of that very thing that brings hope, like the drop of water to barren land, our soul can be barren too. I see this applied to spiritual hunger, as well.

    1. Most certainly, Joyce – it does apply to spiritual hunger too.

As you’ve probably gathered, I’m not into long expositions. I sincerely believe that all of us are wise beyond our own imagination and all it needs is to pull out a tiny wedge and see how it gushes forth. People are talented far beyond what they give themselves credit for.

As a writer, my job is not to preach – but to prick!

      All good wishes, Eric

      1. You’ve said it so well. I could not agree more. And hopefully the reader will see that part where he/she thirsts or hungers in the words spoken.

  4. Metaphorical too – captures drops of concern, drops of anger, drops of sweat or blood. Perhaps not said in the poem, but who ever reads a poem for just what is there? What it implies and where it can lead … gorgeous poem!

    1. You covered almost all the bases there and so very right too.

You are new here but regular visitors know that I love tossing a pebble and learning from the ripples.

      All good wishes, Eric
P/s I ticked to receive your updates and shall be revisiting your blog with regularity

  5. Several years ago, in the Salt Flats, there was a 100 year flood, and… a once every 100 years of bloom, which people came to see from all over the world. Water is life!

    1. Wow! That must have been something – for the casual visitors and also the scientific community. Yes, water is life. Have a great weekend ahead, Steve.

    1. Hello Penny 🙂

You’re ever so kind with your comments. Thank you.

You are so right, sometimes all it takes is a single drop of —

      Peace, Eric

    1. Indrajit – that is so lovely and gracious of you. Thank you.

I enjoyed your recent post – Witness the Spirit – and ticked to receive your future posts.

      See you around 🙂
      Eric

    1. I’m glad you expanded on it and that was exactly what I was hoping for. My regular readers know that I always layer my words – nothing sneaky, but just that “all look into the mirror but each takeaway something unique” – something that I’ve repeated a zillion times.

Thank you for your visit and comment,
      Eric
      P/s Jonathan, is it?

  6. I love it when one is inspired by others to write more. Thats a great compliment to your jerseygirl friend. This reminds me of the microscopic views of a grain of sand that actually shows miniture or microscopic shells which in fact are creatures. a grain of sand or a drop of water – all exhibit life in its infinite variety. I enjoyed this.

    1. Hello Nancy,

First time here, I believe. Welcome and thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Yes, in a metaphysical sense every life is part of/contains life infinitum, I reckon.

      Glad you enjoyed your visit,
      Eric
